Path to progress

At BADER, sustainability is our top priority. In line with the German Parliament’s holistic approach, we actively support UN goals across our entire value chain. Since 2010, our Competence Center Sustainability (CCS) has been driving both short- and long-term strategies, ensuring the seamless integration of financial, ecological, and social aspects.

Climate Strategy

2030 CO2 Emission Reduction Plan

Our CO2 Reduction Plan aims to significantly cut carbon emissions by 2030, aligning with the Paris Agreement's goal to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C. Using 2019 as our baseline year, we target a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and a 28% reduction in Scope 3 emissions*. Committed to Science-Based Targets since 2021, with validation in 2024, we drive change through renewable energy adoption and energy efficiency. Our approach integrates innovation, regulation, and public engagement for a sustainable future.

*The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

Aligning actions: BADER's sustainability approach

Our sustainability report aligns BADER’s activities with the Global Compact principles and the three dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): product (economy), planet (environment), and people (society). Additionally, we emphasise partnering (collaboration), recognising that achieving the SDGs holistically across the entire value chain requires cooperation with various stakeholders.

Certificates and audits

Verified sustainability commitment

We promote sustainable development through an integrated management system aligned with international standards, including IATF 16949 / ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001, and regular internal audits. All our leather-manufacturing sites have received the Energy Controlled Leather (ECO2L) Certification for tanneries on energy and carbon dioxide (CO2) management. Additionally, seven of our eight leather-manufacturing sites have been audited according to the globally recognised Leather Working Group (LWG) audit protocol.
